Research

Vision

We are building a multidisciplinary team with expertise spanning structural, mechanical, and materials engineering. Our research focuses on the mechanics and failure mechanisms of thin-walled smart structures across length scales, using high-precision experiments (including X-ray tomography and 3D printing), numerical simulations, and statistical methods. Specifically, we develop novel lightweight metamaterials with tunable and buckling-induced functionalities, explore renewable and sustainable materials, and study their structural performance from the micro- to the macro-scale.

SCALE Lab envisions a future where innovative, sustainable, and scalable metastructures synergize with advanced scientific tools to create new pathways beyond traditional structural and earthquake engineering practices, with broader impacts across mechanical, aerospace, materials, and biomedical applications.
